In the distant past a monolith of unknown origin arrived on earth for a short while and begun the theory of evolution through a group of apes. Forward a few years to 2001 where another monolith has been discovered just below the surface of the moon, now a signal has placed the next monolith at the planet Jupiter where months later a small crew are on their way. Dr Dave Bowman and Dr Frank Poole are among the crew, also a high-tech computer system known as HAL 9000 has become corrupted and is taking over their vessel. It is a race to achieve the next step in evolution but whoever finds it will have to face the unknown.
