In a post-apocalyptic world a family is forced to live their existence in complete silence because of vicious monsters with ultra-sensitive hearing. Lee and Evelyn and their young children live out on a farm near the woods and their day-to-day lives are centred around survival, gathering food and necessities and avoiding speech or any form of sound, which proves hard to do especially with a baby on the way. Their daughter Regan is also deaf making it harder for her to understand and be aware of noise, though eventually it becomes inevitable when the baby arrives and the monsters become aware of their existence.
