In the Midwest during 1967, Jewish physics teacher Larry Gopnik is watching as his life is crumbling around him. Larry feels as though he has done nothing to bring these events upon him as he seeks meaning and answers from local Rabbi’s. Larry’s wife is leaving him for Sy Ableman, one of his students is trying to sue him falsely over test results, his kids are out of control and he has been forced to live in a motel with his useless brother Arthur. Why is this all happening is their a reason or is it just a random string of misfortunes
