Barry Lyndon

The epic grand-scale odyssey of Barry Lyndon who in the eighteenth century began as Redmond Barry, fleeing his small village in Ireland after shooting an officer. Barry joins the British army and takes up arms until he finds his chance to leave a few years later and make a new life for himself. After being discovered as a deserter Barry is forced into the Prussian army where he befriends his Captain who gives him a special assignment as a spy of Irish gambler Chevalier de Balibari. Barry helps the Chevalier, becoming his partner in crime for a while until he settles down to marry the wealthy and recently widowed Lady Lyndon. After moving to England Barry Lyndon has climbed the social ladder and become obsessed with nobility, even though his new fortune is quickly disappearing.
