Benedetta

Loosely based on the true story of Benedetta Carlini who in 17th-century Pescia, Italy was enrolled into a Catholic convent to become a nun. Now as an adult Benedetta is seeing visions of Jesus and claims to be his bride, she is also performing seemingly amazing miracles, though some are skeptical, believing she is lying and pulling elaborate tricks. When a young peasant woman, Bartolomea, seeks shelter at the convent from her abusive father, Benedetta takes her under her wing. Secretly the two begin a relationship which puts their lives in danger, especially now the Abbess Felicita has caught wind of her false claims and secret lover. When the nuncio is brought down from Florence to inspect Felicita’s claims, Benedetta and Bartolomea are put in grave danger, now Benedetta must pull off one final miracle or trick to save her life.
