Carrie White is a painfully shy 16-year-old who lives with her fanatically religious and overbearing mother, she is teased constantly at school and forced to pray over her sins at home constantly. When a group of girls who bully Carrie take things to far when she gets her period, they plot a nasty finale for their school experience by inviting Carrie to the prom with the popular Tommy Ross. Carrie accepts naively, hoping for a chance at fitting in and being seen as normal, though at the same time she is beginning to discover that she has telekinesis. When the fateful prom arrives and the girls plan is unleashed while Carrie is accepting the prom queen award, all hell breaks loose and Carrie unleashes all her built up anger and rage through her devastating telekinetic abilities.
