Vic and Melinda Van Allen live with their daughter, Trixie, in a small Louisiana town. The couple have a strange relationship as Melinda is able to have lovers outside of the marriage, and Vic puts up with it to avoid a divorce. As we follow their lives we see how each person who comes into Melinda’s life eats away at Vic, and he lurks in the background trying to get rid of them. Word around town is that Vic killed her previous boyfriend, Martin McRae, and he even admits it jokingly in front of friends. As Melinda meets three new men over the following weeks, Joel, Charlie and Tony, a few of them go missing or wind up in accidents, Melinda blames Vic, and even their closest friends are starting to wonder. How far will Vic allow Melinda to go before he does something irreversible.
