While out on a lake, John Haloran has a heart attack and dies in front of his young wife Louise all while arguing about his rich mothers will. Soon after Louise concocts an elaborate story about John being away on business while she travels to castle Haloran in Ireland to ensure her part in the inheritance. Upon arriving Louise discovers her dead husbands family are quite a mystery. Lady Haloran has two other sons, Richard and Billy whom she ignores in favor of her dead daughter Kathleen who passed away years prior drowning in the lake.
