In the future an alien race has hit earth and will destroy it, unbeatable by any standard military army so far. Major William Cage has never seen a battlefield and is a coward, but after a scuffle with his superior he is sent right into the heart of the war. Cage is killed almost instantly after being dropped but then awakens back at the start again, this continues a few times until he meets Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski who he discovers had the same thing happen to her. After convincing Rita of his condition the two form strategies every day to reach the enemy, the get closer and closer but keep dying like a continuous loop until they realize the enemy is so much more advanced than they realized.
