Ray and Annie Kinsella move with their young daughter to a farm in Iowa, while walking through the crops one night Ray hears a voice whisper “if you build it, he will come”. Ray continues to hear this voice and he makes the connection that he is supposed to build a baseball field in the middle of his farm. After the field is built famous dead baseball players from the past arrive on the field from out of the crops, including the legendary Shoeless Joe Jackson, only Ray and his family can see the players though. Eventually the entire Chicago White Sox team begins playing on the field each day. Over time Ray finally comes to an understanding of why he was told to build the field and for which purpose.
