In 1501 Italy, a city is under attack, its rightful ruler, Arnolfini, promises a group of mercenaries 24 hours of looting if they succeed in retaking the city, however the promise is broken and they are driven out. Arnolfini’s son Steven is set to be wed to Agnes, a virgin daughter of an aristocrat, the two have never met. Soon after their meeting Agnes is taken, along with their treasures by the mercenaries led by Martin, a ruthless band of misfits, prostitutes and a visionary Cardinal. The group are led by the Cardinal’s visions to a castle which they take and set up as their home, where Agnes is subject to all their debauched ways, though Martin seems to love her. Steven and his fathers army are on their trail and discover Agnes held up in the castle, however they are undermanned and unable to rescue her, now the plague arrives and could possible be the answer.
