In the Mood for Love

In 1962 Hong Kong, Journalist Mr. Chow and his wife move into a small apartment, on the same day Secretary Mrs. Chan and her husband move into the adjacent apartment. Both Mr. Chow and Mrs. Chan are distant from their partners as they come to understand they are both being cheated on. While spending all their time alone, as their partners are continually out, the two develop a friendship, however Mrs. Chan tries to keep it discrete and secret so there is no gossip. Unwilling to sink to their partners levels and have an affair the two spend their days talking, eating and going for night walks, Mr. Chow begins writing a martial arts serial, which he has always wanted to do, and they begin working together. As their time inevitably comes to an end the pair who are deeply in love must confront the reality that they may never see each other again and that this chapter of their lives is over.
