Based on the true story of Richard Williams, the father of legendary tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams, and their rise to stardom. Growing up dirt poor in Compton, California, Richard spends his days training the girls and trying to get them a professional trainer, while also working two jobs. After showing the girls to coach Paul Cohen, he decides to take on Venus for free, leaving Serena to watch and practice from the sidelines. After participating in juniors matches and finding success, Richard takes the girls out and fires Paul as he feels they are not ready for matches yet. Next after seeing the girls play, coach Rick Macci from Florida offers and unbelievable deal to train both girls and relocate the family to Florida, all expenses paid. After three years and no matches, Macci and Venus finally convince Richard and Venus enters her first pro match against world number one Vicario.
