After a family party, renowned crime novelist and family patriarch Harlan Thrombey is found dead in his own home. At first what seems like a suicide turns out to be much more, Detective Benoit Blanc receives an anonymous envelope with money to hire him to investigate what now seems like a murder. The Thrombey family are called back to the family home along with Harlan’s personal nurse Marta, for questioning about the night of the death. As Blanc digs deeper it seems more and more layers are unraveled. Could it be any of Harlan’s children or grandchildren, the maid or someone else? and for what reason was it made to look like a suicide?
