In the near future an apocalypse is not far off in the wastelands of Australia, society has fallen and gangs run wild. Max is a policeman who has a young family and he is a very good driver, when he takes out a gang member known as the Nightrider the rest of the gang are after him including its fierce leader Toecutter. Soon after, Max’s best friend Jim is murdered by the gang and eventually his innocent wife and child as well. Max slips into madness and leaves the force to take matters into his own hands and finish of the gang one by one.
