Mank

In 1930’s and 40’s Hollywood we follow legendary screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz, a tell it like it is, scathing social critic and drunk. Working for MGM, Mank is offered to write a screenplay for Orson Welles, he is given 60 days in solitary where he creates the legendary first draft of Citizen Kane. After his fellow writers and social higher-ups read the script they all warn Mank of the implications of so blatantly writing people like William Randolph Hearst and Marion Davies into the story, also Mank wants screen credit for his work which wasn’t part of the original deal, causing Welles to become outraged. We go back and fourth through political corruption, high-class parties, drunken walks in the night and discover the darker side of MGM through the eyes of Mankiewicz, mostly against his benefit.
