Based on the true story of Carl Brashear, an African-American who grew up in the 40’s and aspired to be in the Navy as an adult. Carl swore not to end up a dead-end farmer like his father and pursue a career that would make his family proud, once he joined the Navy Carl was made a chef and expected to be nothing more. Pushing against racial pressures Carl strives to be a Navy diver, a dangerous and extreme occupation. Master Chief Billy Sunday was a professional diver until he had an accident which landed him teaching those training to be divers, When Carl enters Chief Sunday’s program he is pushed to his limits by everybody in the team but against all odds he proves everybody wrong, though getting in may not be his toughest obstacle yet.
