At a hearing designed to expose and destroy the reputation of renowned scientist and father of the atomic bomb, J. Robert Oppenheimer, a panel of government associates working for Lewis Strauss explore his past as he studied in the United States and England. Trying to uncover his ties with the communist party while also discover his motives for creating the bomb that destroyed Hiroshima. We get a look at his time studying and then teaching quantum physics, while building a team of highly trained scientists, his recruitment by General Leslie Groves to make the Atomic Bomb before the Russians, his indiscretions with other women during his marriage and other significant events. After the success of the A-bomb, Oppenheimer is plagued by visions and thoughts of what he was a major part of and coming to the realization that he made the world a much more dangerous place.
