Based on a true story, in December of 1989 in Montreal a lone gunman enters the Polytechnique university and opens fire on any female he sees, believing feminism to be wrong and women studying engineering. The story follows three individuals throughout the horrific event, the killer and two students, Valerie and Jean-Franois. After murdering a number of women the killer turns the gun on himself. We then see the lives of both surviving students, one suicidal and the other living life, working and starting a family of her own but unable to shake the nightmares of that fateful day.
