After a local girl is brutally murdered by a “Ghostface” masked man with a knife, the small town of Woodsboro is on edge. Sidney Prescott is a high-schooler struggling to deal with the rape and murder of her mother one year earlier, now it seems the killer has returned and is after her. News reporter, Gale Weathers, reported the case on Sidney’s mother and is writing a book on her, now she is back to cover the new Ghostface story as more murder victims surface. With help from Deputy Dewey Riley and her movie obsessed friends, Sidney must prepare for a killer who works by the rules of cliche horror movies to trap his victims, and reveal the true killer before he gets to her.
