A Pixar Animation, Joe Gardner is a passionate NYC Jazz teacher with a special flair for piano, and aspirations to make it big as a musician. Upon receiving news of his big break Joe falls down a manhole and dies, his soul is journeying toward the Great Beyond when he breaks free and finds himself in the Great Before. Now surrounded by new souls ready to begin their lives on earth, Joe is tasked with helping soul no. 22 find her spark before she is ready for life, though she is particularly disagreeable about leaving and worrisome about not being good enough for a life. Along the way Joe and 22 discover and unlock in each other their true passions and abilities while on the way to a new life.
