Tristan Thorn is the son of a man and an enslaved Princess, he lives in the English village of Wall, which boarders on the magical kingdom of Stormhold. In order to gain the unrequited love of Victoria, Tristan promises to venture out into the world and bring her back a fallen star. Meanwhile the death of the King of Sotrmhold leads the remaining sons to fight over the throne, however they also must retrieve the fallen star to be crowned. Tristan discovers the fallen star in human form, by the name Yvaine, he tethers her to him to journey back to Wall, however along the way they are swept up on a wild adventure. Three witches led by Lamia also seek the star to rejuvenate their withering bodies. Tristan and Yvaine, with the help of the flamboyant sky pirate Captain Shakespeare and his crew, must defeat the Kings sons, the witches and along the way unexpectedly discover true love.
