The tale of the high-class nineteenth-century New York man Newland Archer and his future fiancé. Newland is set to marry May Welland who is another high-class New Yorker, but since the recent visit of May’s cousin the Countess Ellen Olenska who has left her husband and become a social outcast, Archer is developing strong feelings of love for her over his future wife. With the entire city expecting this wedding all the pressure is on Archer and if he wants to pursue his families wishes or his own, Archer loves May but cant help but feel she isn’t the one for him.
