In the early 1880’s Missouri, nearing the end of the now-famous outlaw Jesse James’ career, the James brothers team up with a new crew including the Ford brothers, Robert and Charley for one last job. After the Blue Cut train robbery Jesse becomes more and more paranoid about his surroundings and the people he keeps close by, Robert idolizes Jesse and his desire to become someone famous is sending him over the edge, especially because everybody makes fun of his vision. When Robert realizes he and Charley are in danger of being found liars by Jesse the opportunity to make a name for himself arises when he chooses to kill his idol, but the response of the world is entirely opposite to what Robert imagined.
