The Devil’s Backbone

In 1939, nearing the end of the Spanish civil war, 10-year-old Carlos arrives at an ominous boys orphanage after the death of his father. Immediately Carlos senses danger, and not just from the bullies but a supernatural ghostly presence lurking through the orphanage basement at night. The orphanage is run by Carmen the headmistress and a kindly professor Dr Casares, also the nasty caretaker Jacinto who is sneaking around a particular storage room each night in search for gold. After proving himself to the bullies Carlos discovers who the ghostly boy is and tries to write some wrongs for him, that is if anybody survives after Jacinto’s final attempt at taking the hidden gold.
