Norville Barnes is looking for work but people only seem to be hiring men with previous experience, at this very time Waring Hudsucker, the president of hugely successful Hudsucker Industries has committed suicide. Hudsuckers board of directors, led by Sidney Mussberger are now seeking an average everyday moron to run the company in order to make the stocks fall low enough for Sidney and the board members to buy it all for a much smaller amount, then remove the temporary leader so they can restore the company to its fortunes. Norville is hired as the new president but he has no clue about the scheme until tough reported Amy Archer begins an undercover investigation of Hudsucker Industries.
