A handful of strangers including, soon-to-be married Iris Henderson, a traveling, book writer/musician Gilbert, two cricket enthusiasts, a magician and his wife, a doctor and his patient and a sweet old lady known as Miss Froy, are waiting patiently at a train stop hotel in continental Europe for the snow to clear. The following day all passengers board the train, just prior to boarding Iris is hit on the head and suffers mild concussion, after being helped onto the train by Miss Froy, Iris wakes up to find the old lady has vanished, and other passengers are denying having seen her, even though Iris is certain the others saw the two of them drinking tea earlier. With the help of Gilbert, Iris searches the train to unravel a larger conspiracy involving many on board and her old lady friend who has disappeared.
