In 1386 France, Marguerite de Carrouges, the wife of Knight Sir Jean de Carrouges, claims to have been raped by her husbands best friend and squire Jacques Le Gris. The claim comes with heavy consequences when Jean appeals to the King for a trial by combat, his death would result in Marguerite being burned alive, while Jacques death would free her. We see the series of events play out from all three perspectives before witnessing the fateful duel, the courage of Marguerite to face the unknown while her husband feels protecting his honor is more important and Jacques is standing by his innocent version of events equally. When the duel begins all is left in the hands of God to choose who is righteous and truthful, a lot hangs in the balance.
