Leland P. Fitzgerald is a young disconnected boy who only sees the suffering around him, rather than the good. He is convicted of first degree murder after stabbing his girlfriends disabled brother, Ryan, to death. Once in juvenile hall, Leland is approached by teacher and aspiring writer, Pearl Madison, who wants to write a book on Leland and unlock his secrets and reason for killing Ryan. Through a series of flashbacks we follow Leland with his home life and struggling to connect with his girlfriend Becky who has a drug addiction, we see the world and life through Leland’s eyes and finally get a glimpse into how someone so seemingly innocent could commit murder.
