Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

In the fictional town of Ebbing, dismayed mother Mildred Hayes discovers three unused billboards outside town and decides to hire them out for the year. Mildred uses the billboards to ask the police why nothing has been done concerning her daughters rape and murder several months earlier. This causes a stir amongst the local police department, especially with Chief Willoughby who is terminal with pancreatic cancer, and officer Dixon, an alcoholic abusive racist who is a terrible police officer. The billboards do very little to open the investigation but the tension is rising in town around Mildred and the locals as she seeks out answers herself. Chief Willoughby has limited time left and officer Dixon is skating on thin ice before he is fired, however Mildred has not given up hope.
