On the desert frontier of an unnamed empire, a small outpost is managed by the Magistrate who cares for his men and the locals including prisoners. Believing the so-called barbarians surrounding the land to hold no threat the Magistrate conducts a peaceful lifestyle, that is until Colonel Joll arrives. The Colonel sees the outpost as weak and in need of tougher laws and punishments on prisoners, especially when information on the barbarians is at stake. After the Magistrate returns from a weeks journey to return an injured girl to her tribe, he is put under extreme conditions by the Colonel and Officer Mandel as a form of interrogation, he is imprisoned and the outpost falls into ruin, proving who the real barbarians are.
