Against the backdrop of the typical working-class suburbia of 1960 lives the Brinson family, Jerry the father works on an up-market golf coarse while his wife Jeanette stays home and looks after their teenage son Joe. When Jerry is laid off he struggles to find work and so Jeanette and Joe get part time jobs, Jerry eventually decides to go and join the men fighting a wildfire nearby for very little pay. Jeanette reacts poorly to her husband leaving and over time Joe begins witnessing his parents marriage fall apart with the arrival of Warren Miller, an older rich man who now has Jeanette’s full attention.
