The true story of Caroline Weldon, a Swiss-American portrait painter who in the 1890’s after her husbands passing, chose to travel from Brooklyn to Dakota in hopes of painting a portrait of the legendary ‘Sitting Bull’. Caroline faces opposition upon arrival from Colonel Silas Grove and his men, with a deep hatred for Native Americans and an apatite for war. Sitting Bull and the Lakota people are in the middle of a struggle over rights to their land, which the government have been taking away piece by piece. Sitting Bull develops a friendship with Caroline during their time together, and together they work to ensure the survival of their people, though eventually a grim fate awaits.
